So I'm not supposed to put up any of the concept sketches I did for the title sequence to HBO's Game of Thrones. However, here is a link to an interview with director Angus Wall that includes a tiny sample of my contribution to the project.

The folks at Elastic were fantastic to work with, giving me allot of creative freedom on some of the designs. I'm glad to have been able to work on something on this grand standard of quality.

The Slontag

Hey all!

Got really busy, hardly any-time to polish up on past projects. I'll post this just to tie things over for now. More exciting, uber-cool things coming. Promise!

The Slontag is a swamp roaming mammal in the wetlands of planet Gorgon 5. These creatures wait for the absinthian glow worms to turn into moths and then guide them to the nearest ovum flower patches which are usually miles away. The flower reacts to the moths by opening up, revealing a wealth of spore and nectar. As the moth feeds on the spore that it will later spread throughout the lands, the slontag is rewarded with the thick nectar rich in fat and minerals. This is a typical symbiotic relationship found on this wondrous planet. Please comment if further observations are required.

Hello Everyone!

I'm back in school and finally getting some art I can actually show.
Working for a while really cleared up some things for me, I have a much more focused direction that seems to be working out pretty well.

A painting for Mike Humphries Style class, which I am taking for the second time.

A few studies for my next project.

This was pretty fun! I was chosen by the good folks at Thinkwell to make the art for thier Holiday card since I interned there for a while.

Also, I've been posting with some regularity on my sketch-blog if you want to see more.

Update:
SSD is officially out! (for a while now actually)
It's pretty much the first thing I worked on that actually got made. I had allot of liberty with the design of the characters, so it was really fun to work on and I think that shows in the final.
If you have an I-Phone, a few dollars, and a genuine need to improve the world and yourself in the process you should seriously consider getting this game.

BTW: Apologies to all German people, women, pirates, dogs, etc...

Hey all!

I did some stuff for the Thinkwell Group in the summer before jumping into another project.
Just before I left a few guys from the digital media department asked me to do some character design for a phone AP they were developing. I only had a few days to design all of the characters for the game, but was amazed to see what just a couple of guys did with them in a few short months.

Happy New Year All!
And what better way to start it off than with some work I am moderately happy with.

This was a really fun project. Taking an new franchise and establishing a public space consistent with the style. In this case all of the materials used would be natural or at least appear to be. I imagined this being built in Descanso Gardens when working on this project. I'll post more sketches on optic vine later.

I really think I made a leap in designing and drawing vehicles in these past few months.
The prompt for this project was to create fighter plane using the materials and the technology of the period. In my story extension to this prompt our planet has been bombarded by outer space comets, thus drastically changing the earth crust causing continents to divide into separate islands with flight becoming the most practical form of transportation. With devastation so close to the promise of a looming apocalypse, religious organizations become a powerful force in controlling world resources.

This is part of an extension to Terry Gilliam's version of the Adventures of Baron Munchousen.
I noticed that the movie borrowed allot from the 1940' German film version, so this scene of the Baron traveling underwater fits right in. Here, you see our hero about to make a bargain with a deteriorating Neptune for his lost horse Beusephelus. I will post some sketches from this project on my sketch site when I scan them.

Goethes' Faust

This adaptation of Faust takes place in late 18th century England. Inspired by by Engravings of London by Gustave Dore.

Mephistopheles makes a deal with god via three messengers.

Faust, one of Gods' favorite scholars, is to be tempted by Mephistopheles and barter for his soul in the afterlife. Mephisto first appears to Faust in form of a dog.

Faust is infatuated with Gretchen, the baker-woman's daughter.

Mephisto introduces Faust to a witch.

At Faust's Request the witch conjures up the image of Helen of Troy escorted by her Lemur servants.

Faust is turned into a younger man capable of pursuing his romantic interests.

Martha, Gretchen's' friend, preoccupies Mephisto's leisure.

Valentine is Gretchen's overprotective brother.

Faust's partner Wagner creates the Humunculus: a fire element with consciousness.

Faust, who can think of nothing to live for, signs the contract within the Book of Souls.

Mephisto spies on Faust and Gretchen. Things are going as planned.

Faust, empowered by Mephisto's magic, unwittingly defeats Valentine.

A sad development. Gretchen is to be executed for drowning the child fathered by Faust. Desperate, Faust demands that Mephistopholes uses his magic to help rescue his lover. How will it end?
